New mum Gwen Stefani goes on a strict diet and exercise regime to get her abs back

Just three weeks after giving birth to her second son Zuma, Gwen Stefani has embarked on a post-baby weight-loss plan and intends to shed almost 3st within three months.

The 5ft 7 singer - who’s also mum to two-year-old Kingston - has hired Jennifer Lopez’s personal trainer to help with her six-days-a-week workouts, and gone on a strict diet to snap back to her pre-baby shape, a pal told Closer.

“She’s really excited about getting to the gym and getting her abs back, and has told everyone she’s determined to lose 2st 12lbs over the next three months,” the pal said.

Gwen, 38, has hired personal trainer to the stars Gunnar Peterson - who helped J-Lo shed 4st of baby weight after the birth of her twins six months ago. She’s also sticking to a strict low-calorie diet to get her size 8 figure back.

“Her post-baby diet consists of two days of 1,400 calories, followed by three days of 1,700 calories. The idea is to force Gwen’s metabolism to be constantly working,” the source said.

“Gwen is eating a lot of fish and tofu and she’s avoiding red meat, which drains her energy. She’s also avoiding all refined sugars and she’s adopted a gluten-free diet. Gwen’s upped her intake of fresh fruit too.”

The singer’s workouts are a mix of Pilates, power yoga and Gyrotonics - a form of exercise based on movements from yoga, swimming, ballet and Chinese meditation Qigong. The exercises are done on a special machine, which uses pulleys and weights for resistance.

The source said: “On Mondays Gwen practices hatha yoga for 1 1/2 hours, on Tuesdays she does an hour-long Pilates class and Wednesdays she does Gyrotechnics. Then the cycle starts again on Thursday, so she’s working out six days a week.”

“Even on a Sunday, Gwen goes power walking.”

Gwen, who’s married to British rock star Gavin Rossdale, 42, has made no secret of her body battles, describing losing weight after baby Kingston as “a nightmare.”

She said: “All of my life I’ve had to work hard to stay in shape. I was a little chubby when I was younger and I didn’t want to be that person forever.”

According to our source, in the past Gwen has dieted to the point that she was miserable, but this time it’s different.

The pal said: “Gwen has struck a happy medium. She keeps saying that she’s so excited to finally be able to see her feet again after staring at a bulging belly for so long And she’s really looking forward to reclaiming her rock-hard abs.”
